New Pastors Announced

New Pastoral Team Announced

At worship last Sunday, we learned the identity of Broadway’s new pastoral team effective in early July.  Marv Kieckhafer, SPPRC chair shared the announcement at both services followed by a video greeting from Pastor Alexis Johnson and Pastor Mark Johnson.

Transition Schedule

As we make this transition to new pastoral leadership, Broadway is making efforts that allow time for you to say good-bye to Pastor Lanette and Pastor Chris, time to welcome Pastor Alexis and Pastor Mark, and time for all to be together in worship and fellowship.

On Sunday, June 3rd you are invited to a special worship service at 5:00 pm.  Pastor Lanette and Pastor Chris will welcome Pastor Alexis and Pastor Mark along side them in a service that will include all four pastors.

Sunday, June 17 will be Pastor Lanette’s and Pastor Chris’ final Sunday preaching at Broadway.  Please be here to send them to their next call with your blessing.

Sunday, June 24th we are currently lining up a guest to share the message and share in a special event.

As the conference continues to set moving schedule, we will let you know Pastor Alexis’ and Pastor Mark’s first Sunday worship at Broadway.  Please check back in a few weeks.

Holy Week

Palm Sunday

Holy Thursday

MARCH 29 7:00 PM

Good Friday

MARCH 30 7:00 PM

What is Holy Week?

Holy Week is the week leading to Easter Sunday. The week begins on Palm Sunday and recognizes Holy or Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.  Holy Week ends at sunrise on Easter morning when we celebrate the Risen Christ.

On March 25th, PALM SUNDAY we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. This Sunday is also referred to as Passion Sunday, marking the beginning of the passion or suffering of Jesus leading to and including the crucifixion.  Broadway invites you to join the parade into Jerusalem on Sunday March 25th at either 8:30 or 10:30 am.  We will lay our coats and wave palm branches to recognize the coming King.  You are invited to bring new and gently used coat, jacket, and sweatshirt donations to be given throughout our community to those who need them.

March 29th is MAUNDY or HOLY THURSDAY.  During our 7:00 pm worship service, we will remember the night that Jesus gathered in the Upper Room with his disciples for the last time.  Through Holy Communion and foot washing, Broadway’s Pastors and Student Life Ministry will remind us in worship that we are called to love and serve one another in humility.

On March 30th, GOOD FRIDAY recalls the betrayal by Judas, the arrest and torture of Jesus, the desertion of the disciples, and Jesus’ crucifixion, death, and burial. At 7:00 pm Broadway UMC will remember this, the most somber day of the church year with a Tennebrae service.  During this service of light to darkness we will recall Jesus’ final hours with the reading of scripture and the extinguishing of candles.

Questions Jesus Asked – a worship series for Lent and Easter

Got questions?  Well apparently, so did Jesus.  In the Gospels, Jesus asked 307 question.

We know that all good teachers use questions to measure someone’s understanding of a subject.  Great teachers use queries to expose new and deeper levels of understanding.  Jesus used questions as a way to open our minds to the possibilities of God’s grace and God’s kingdom.

During our worship time this Lent and Easter, we will look at some of the questions Jesus asked and see how they help us find the answers we seek today.   If you wonder about your faith, ponder God’s presence in current events, and think about the need for justice then join us on Sunday mornings at either 8:30 or 10:30.  Curious minds welcome.

This year the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday coincided with Valentines Day.  Our worship asked the question, “What ist it you go into the wilderness to look at?”  A reed shaken by the wind? (Matthew 11:7)  Pastor Lanette’s message focused on the greatest love story every told.

Why are you bothering this woman? (Matthew 26:10) As we continue our Lenten journey and in light of even more violence in our society, Pastor Chris challenges us to seek justice in our broken world

Could you not stay awake for one hour?  Our worship this Sunday centers on the night Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gesthemane.

Outreach Collection for Longfellow School

On Sunday February 18th , the Outreach Team kicked off a campaign to provide health supplies to the classrooms of our partner school, Longfellow Elementary.  Over the next month, we are asking for donations of hand-sanitizer (the larger the bottle the better), tissues, and disinfecting wipes.  They will also accept free-will donations which will purchase the items listed above.  Please bring your donations to the church before March 18th and place them in the designated collection box or leave them with the church office during office hours.
