Sunday School Schedule for Children & Youth

  • 9:00 am Youth Sunday School Jr. and Sr. High Youth Sunday School meet in Jr. & Sr. High rooms upstairs. Youth are encouraged to attend the 8:00 or 9:30 worship services.
  • 9:30 am Children’s Sunday School Children may leave the sanctuary following the Unison Prayer or meet in rooms at 9:45AM. Children are escorted to Fellowship Hall at 10:30.
  • 10:45-11:15 am Drama for Youth & Young at Heart for all those interested in participating in dramatic presentations.
  • 11:00 am-Noon Children’s Sunday School Children may leave the sanctuary following the Unison Prayer or meet in Room B05 at 11:15AM. Parents meet children in Room B14 following service.

Sunday Morning
During the 8:00 a.m. service children are dismissed from the sanctuary for Sunday School following the Unison Prayer. They are returned to the Sanctuary during the final hymn.
Age-level Sunday School classes meet at 9:30-10:30. Children are escorted to appropriate rooms. Parents are asked to meet children at these rooms following the service. Parents may attend worship, an adult Sunday School class, or participate in other activities offered at the church. Children whose parents attend worship and an adult Sunday School class can participate in a different activity each Sunday School hour they attend.

Wednesday Evening
On Wednesday Evening our Seekers in Sneakers program begins with a catered meal at 6:00-6:20 pm. A donation toward the cost of the meal is appreciated.
At 6:30 pm, all activities for children and youth begin, concluding at 7:45 pm.
Children aged 2-4 attend Wednesday’s Children. Craft, stories, play, and music help develop preschool skills. Children are released to parents at 7:45 from Room B05.
Children aged 4 through 2nd grade choose two 30-minute activities–Spanish, Easy Recipes, or Taekwondo. Children are released to parents at 7:45 from Room B05.
The 3rd and 4th grade children are a part of Jesus’ All-Stars, and participate in a variety of age appropriate activities in Room 210.
Christian Cadets for 5th and 6th grade youth participate in a variety of activities designed for preteens to grow in fellowship and faith.

Summer
Children
Vacation Bible School is held on five consecutive Wednesdays beginning after the conclusion of the school year for children ages 2 through grade 6. Doors open at 7:30 am and breakfast is served. From 9-11:30 am children rotate between Bible based classes including art, music, recreation, and storytime. Children ages 2-4 must be picked up at 11:30 am. Children who will be attending Kindergarten – 6th grade in the fall are served lunch and bused to an afternoon activity off-site. Activities have included the Henry Doorly Zoo, parks, museums, and historic locations. Children return to the church by 4:30 pm for afternoon snacks and parental pick-up. Doors close at 5:30 pm.

Youth
Sunday Morning
Sunday School classes for Jr. High (7th & 8th grade) and Sr. High (9th – 12th grade) meet 9:00-9 :30 am.
Jr. High Youth serve as acolytes during the 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 am worship services.
Youth who are trained in nursery policies may be scheduled as nursery assistants on Sunday mornings.

Wednesday Evening
Confirmation classes are held for 7th grade youth and above. Call the office for details.
The “Seekers in Sneakers” program begins with a catered meal at 6pm.

Jr. United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) meets from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. Youth in 7th and 8th grades participate in activities designed to nurture their faith and build relationships with one another, with a team of adult sponsors, and with God.
Sr. United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) also meets from 6:30-7:45 pm. Youth in grades 9-12 participate in activities designed to create community, promote service, relate contemporary issues to the Bible, and promote healthy lifestyles for young adults, meeting with a team of adult sponsors.

Summer
Jr. and Sr. High youth volunteer to help with Vacation Bible School by guiding children between classes, assisting teachers, and monitoring small groups of children on the afternoon field trips.
An annual 5-7 day Youth Mission Trip is taken to a different location each year. Past trips include San Francisco and Kansas City. Youth work throughout the year to earn points as well as meet expenses required to make this trip. The purpose of the trip is to understand opportunities for service, grow in faith as individuals and as a community, and strengthen the bonds among the youth.

Summer camping opportunities include United Methodist camps in Iowa including Wesley Woods camping opportunities as well as Summer Games University on the Grinnell College campus and Summer Games Georgia held near Covington, GA.
