Our Pastor

Rev. Alexis Johnson has been pastor of Broadway UMC since July, 2018.  She is ordained through the Iowa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.

At Broadway, we believe all persons are children of God, created in the image of God, for the glory of God.  We live that out by welcoming and offering full inclusion for all.  Whether you are here to worship, looking to be baptized, take communion or celebrate your wedding vows, you are welcome here.

During the summer months of 2023 we are holding one Sunday worship service at 9:30AM.  This service starts in the traditional syle with hymn singing led by organ, and spoken responses.  About half way through the service we switch gears and the Praise Band steps in to lead us in modern Christian singing.

Children who have entered PreK and completed 5th grade are welcome to attend Sunday school in the Lover Level during the first part of worship.  Later in the service they rejoin their families and are welcomed in front for a special Younges Disciples message.

Come early for coffee, donuts, and conversation in the DeLong Lounge.

Our regular worship sechedule resumes on Sunday September 10, 2023.  See below for details.

On Sunday mornings we provide worship at 8:30 and 10:30am.  Done in different styles both services center around the scripture and message for the day.

On the fifth Sunday of each month we all gather together at 9:30 and worship as one with elements of both services.

Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and during special times.

Traditional style worship is held at 8:30am. If you are a life long United Methodist and love singing hymns accompanied by organ this is the service for you.  We also lift our voices together for responsive calls, prayers, and creeds.  Here is where you will hear the choir and Broadway Bells.

Led by our own Praise Team, the 10:30 service is done in a contempory style.  Worship flows freely between songs, scripture, message and prayers.

Where Is Broadway and How Can I Contact You?

Located in the historic downtown of Council Bluffs, the church is a landmark to the community or 1st and Broadway.  You will find us by the silver Spire that reaches up toward heaven.

Broadway’s parking lot is located on the east side of the church between Broadway and Pierce Streets.  After parking, please come in the double glass doors on that side of the building. As you enter, you may take the elevator to level 1 or take the stairs up one flight.  At the top of the stairs or from the elevator you will enter the Welcome Center.  On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, there is almost always someone available to help you.

During office hours you might find the east entrance locked.  Please ring the doorbell found on the brick by the farthest north door (Broadway Street side).  We assure you the lock is not to keep anyone out, but is there so we can know you are here and can welcome and greet you.

Weekly office hours are from 9am-3pm on Mondays through Thursdays.  You can call the church at 712-322-7741.  Be sure to leave us a voice mail after hours.

Children and Broadway

We welcome children in worship.  We also provide space for children to play while parents take personal time for worship. The nursery is located off the Welcome Center and Broadway’s nursery staff have passed background checks and completed basic first aid.  We invite you to use our nursery free of charge  as you are comfortable.
