Broadway is partnering with Grace UMC in Glenwood to gather donations of bottled water. If you don’t know, the community of Glenwood is expected to be without water for 2-3 months due to the flood.
Starting March 25th we will have a 53’ trailer in our parking lot. Let’s fill it! Gallons of water work best but they will accept any donation. Once we fill it, we can fill it up again! For larger donations, please make an appointment with the office. We are also considering designated times when the trailer will be staffed by volunteers.
Meals for those Displaced
Grace UMC in Glenwood has been serving three meals each day to those displaced and affected by the Spring floods.
On Friday, March 29th volunteers from Broadway will be providing and serving breakfast from 7-9 am, lunch from 11 am – 1 pm, and dinner from 4 – 7 pm. We plan about 30 minutes before and after for set up and clean up. To let us know you would like to help at Broadway with food prep or serving in Glenwood, complete this form.
During the school year, many of Broadway’s members and friends serve at Longfellow school as reading buddies and teacher aids. We invite you to join us as we make a difference helping children learn. We will have the forms granting the school permission to complete a background check available in August, 2019.
Broadway’s Outreach Team is the service and mission arm of Broadway. Throughout the year, this team volunteers and recruits others for our Longfellow partnership and Meals on Wheels on Wheels deliveries. Seasonally, they sponsor special collections to supply items to our less fortunate neighbors.
This Lenten season, as we prepare for Maundy Thursday and the night Jesus washed his disciples feet, the Outreach Team is collecting donations of new socks in all sizes. On Maundy Thursday, they will be distributed as we serve a light meal and offer free foot care and haircuts.
During the season after Easter, as we celebrate Resurrection and Care of Creation, our Outreach Team is sponsoring a free electronics recycling day on April 28th. Find more information, here.
Two Tuesdays a month, Broadway United Methodist meets with our neighbors who need little help. While we cannot be all things to all people, we have tried to fill a gap that other agencies do not provide. Offering a small amount of gas to licensed drivers who own a vehicle, can make the difference in terms of getting to work and keeping a job or looking for work. Some need a single meal for their household – enough to get them to the next day when the pantries are open.
We are structured so our gifts cannot be considered a monthly budget item but an opportunity providing a solution in the event of unexpected life events. To help with other monthly expenses such as rent and utilities, we partner and support local agencies that offer the appropriate assistance.
