Last Week's Message - Building What Was Always Meant to Be
Welcome to Lent at Broadway

Welcome to Lent at Broadway

- Thursday, February 12, 2026

Welcome to Lent at Broadway!

For those of us to whom the practice of marking Lent is new, this is a season of preparation for the death and rebirth of our God on earth. As those who have practiced (or even heard about) Lent for years can tell you, it is often a time of sacrifice, humility, and letting go of comforts and privileges so we can better prepare ourselves to understand Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

And, as is so often the case, there is another way of understanding this ancient practice...

Kinnick Driscoll Chosen to Simpson Youth Academy

Kinnick Driscoll Chosen to Simpson Youth Academy

Hey Broadway, this is Kinnick Driscoll, a sophomore at AL, member of student life, the tech team, and single board. I was recently accepted into the Simpson Youth Academy (SYA) at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and I would like to share what I hope to bring out of this. SYA is a unique religious program for incoming juniors and seniors that “allows students to explore their faith and prepare for college.”

The SYA camp program runs in many different departments, including community work, spiritual practice mentally and physically, and student-led scripture discussions and worship in the evenings.. The camp also tackles all sorts of tough religious questions about the purpose of actions, life and where we see God in our everyday lives. The camp runs from June 20th-29th, but that isn’t the only interactive time in the program. After the camp residency, students are invited to continue their work with SYA through activities like retreats and zoom calls and other faith-centered activities throughout the year.

Through this experience, I hope to strengthen my faith, grow as a leader, and gain tools that will allow me to better serve both our school and the Broadway community. I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement this church has given me, and I look forward to sharing what I learn when I return.

~Kinnick
