CB Fridges Coming to Broadway UMC in 2027

If you read the Nonpariel, you might have noticed last week’s article regarding CB Fridges. With the opening of a community refrigerator at Timothy Lutheran Church our neighbors now have access to food on any day at any time.

The mission of CB Fridges is “Connecting neighbors in need with surplus food and fostering a community built on dignity.” Nourishing Council Bluffs with shared care, CB Fridges is dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity by offering food at accessible public fridges. Their motto is “Take what you need.  Leave what you can.”

A Community Fridge is a public refrigerator and pantry space established to provide free, accessible food to anyone in the neighborhood. Community refrigerators can fill the gap when traditional food pantries are unavailable because of limited hours. They also keep food that is still consumable from landfills.

The plan is to have four public fridges serving Council Bluffs by early 2027.  Timothy Lutheran on West Broadway is the first location and is currently open.  By the end of this year, fridges should be available at the Lakin Campus and All Care.  And a fourth location will be hosted here at Broadway United Methodist.

As we plan and prepare for an opening in early 2027, we are hoping to invest ourselves with the fridges already open. Teresa Fletcher has agreed to be our representative at the monthly meetings of CB Fridges.  She will report to us what is needed and how you can be involved.

Please speak with Pastor Brian or Teresa to learn more or to express an interest in becoming involved with the project.
