UPDATE:

As always, Broadway members stepped up as we started handing out Christmas wish lists from Boys & Girls Club children Nov. 23. We will be back in the Centrix between services Nov. 30 as we still have 26 lists to assign.

We received requests from 55 children this year. Left to adopt are boys and girls ages 5-17.

Shoppers are asked to drop off wrapped gifts labeled with the child's name and assigned number at BUMC by Sunday, Dec. 14. They will be delivered to the Boys & Girls Club that week. If you don't want to shop, donations are accepted and will be put toward gifts.

Christmas cheer can come in many packages. For the last several years, our Broadway United Methodist members have brought joy to local children in just that - brightly colored packages.

We all know that Christmas is not about material things. But these presents are more than just the dolls or dump trucks inside. They are proof that people care. They are proof that these children are worthy of another person’s time. They are proof that they are seen.

The Boys and Girls Club Christmas Gift Drive was very important to BUMC member Mick Freeman. He worked alongside fellow member Dirk Waller to make sure every child who filled out a wish list was matched with a shopper from our church. He loved bringing smiles to these children’s faces.

Since Mick’s passing in 2024, his wife, Margaret, and daughter, Sue, have picked up the torch alongside Dirk.

The lists have been received and there are currently 40 names available. They are anticipating the number of requests growing to about 50. Mick's family and Dirk will will be available in the church Welcome Center between services to distribute lists to willing shoppers beginning Sunday November 23rd. The children vary in ages, from about 5-17. It is their hope that most will be taken by Thanksgiving.

Shoppers will wrap the gifts and label them clearly before bringing them back to Broadway by Sunday, Dec. 14. The committee will deliver them all to the club that week.

A Boys & Girls Club representative said they are so thankful for the generosity of Broadway in spreading the love of God to the club members. Thank you to all who have participated over the past several years, and thank you to all who plan to pitch in this season.
