This week Broadway’s Mission Focus team announced our 2nd Quarter Partnership. Saving Grace is a unique professional logistics and distribution solution that provides the metro area’s only dedicated food rescue service. They also build awareness of the problems of excess food and hunger in our community and encourage everyone to help prevent wasting food.
Rescue - Grocery stores, caterers, restaurants, event centers, convenience stores, wholesalers, and other food vendors donate their excess perishable food, rather than throwing it away.
Transport - Professional drivers/food ambassadors use refrigerated vehicles to pick up surplus food from scheduled and on-call donors and deliver it the same day to nonprofit partners.
Deliver - Food pantries, shelters, children’s programs, senior centers, transitional living facilities, and other nonprofit partners receive this healthy perishable food, free of charge, to feed those in need.
As a quarterly partner of Broadway UMC, a tithe (10%) of what we receive in April, May, and June will be given to Saving Grace to support their work in our communities. For those looking to volunteer, their website lists several community events that need helping hands. Aside from Earth Day Omaha, Saving Grace will be present at Celebrate CB and are looking for volunteers to hand out candy or carry their banner during the parade.
