Ingathering Collection Blessed at Worship

by Amanda Smith

Ingathering is a day of celebration & a time to collect mission projects of the United Methodist Church. On October 19th the United Women of Faith (UWF) gathered a group of ten multigenerational members to assemble school kits. In just one hour using our organizational skills in an assembly line from unwrapping, counting each item, arranging a variety of colors, double checking the items & wrapping each kit.

A special blessing of thanks to the congregation for your generosity in doing God's work with your donations for this year's collection of school supplies. Thanks to each of the over 1040 items collected in donations this year, in addition to the 78 items left from 2024, UWF were able to increase our backpack donations by a dozen each year for the last 3 years! We assembled 60 kits this year & we have donations left to start the 2026 collection too! That's $600 of the Lord's love we are able to lavish on so  many students for the Ingathering in addition to our donation to local Longfellow students.

UWF will be taking the backpack kits to Ingathering in Greenfield, Iowa on Saturday, November 1 so they can be taken to Midwest Mission in Jefferson, Iowa before being distributed.

The kits were blessed in worship on Sunday, October 26, 2025.  As those in worship stretched their hands toward the kits, Pastor Brian prayed this prayer:

God,

We ask that you take these simple gifts, these small reminders of our love and commitment to your children - all your children - in our community and beyond. May they go to the places they are needed as school supplies.  And, may they go to communities where there are those who need reminding that they are not alone and not forgotten or left behind. May they be a connection between us and your people whom we do not see and yet we know that you see.  We ask that you give us eyes to see until that day when we are all gathered around your Heavenly banquet table and share your abundance.  We ask all this in the name of your son, Jesus.

Amen

All Soul's Sunday

November 2, 2025 - Sunday, November 2, 2025

As the Sunday following Halloween, the first Sunday in November is designated as All Soul's Day. It is a day to remember the faithful servants of the church who have passed away this past year. During both worship services we will read the roll of those who have died this year with the ringing of the bell and lighting of a candle.

You are invited to bring an item or photo of a loved one that you miss. Place them on the kneeling rail as a reminder of their presence in your heart. After worship, stop in the Welcome Center as Pastor Brian dedicates the new names added to the Memorial Tree.

Participation Sunday

November 2, 2025

This coming Sunday, November 2nd Pastor Brian and the worship team will begin a new worship series titled, "Gratitude." As this is the Sunday after Halloween it is also designated as the day we remember those who have passed away this last year. As an act of honoring those faithful servants of Broadway we look forward to continuing the Kingdom work they particpated in for the betterment of our community.

As we look at ways we can move forward in their legacy, we will be turning in completed Participation cards for Broadway's 2026 mission and ministry plans. If you were here last Sunday, you found a card inside you bulletin. I hope you took that with you when you left, prayed over what God is calling you to, and plan to bring your completed card this week.  As Pastor Brian has said, it is not about any amount you can place on the card or how many ways you can serve. What we are asking for is your engagement and participation by returning the card. We will collect cards as an act of worship.

After worship, our Administrator, Lori will total all the pledges to participate with "prayers, presence, gifts, service, and withness."  The information collected will then be used to determine Broadway's plans for ministry for the coming year.

If you were not in worship last week, misplaced your card, or cannot be with us this Sunday, we offer an online option.  Just click the button below and complete the information as you feel called.  That will be turned into a physical card as an act of worship.  All financial pledges will be kept confidential.

Partnership Collection for Longfellow Elementary School - Saturday, November 1, 2025

On November 1, 2025 the Angel Tree in the Welcome Center will become a place to hang new or gently used gloves, scarves and hats for kids at Longfellow Elementary. Coats can be left in the cart outside the office and we will store them somewhere safe until they are delivered.

Your gifts will be used by the teachers at Longfellow to keep kids warm and dry during colder recess times. Kids play hard, even in winter, so having something dry for the next play period will make sure all kids can get some outside time during the day.

We are so grateful for your contributions to our Socktober campaign. I write this on a cold, rainy October afternoon. I am sure teachers appreciate having the means to keep feet warm after jumping in puddles or snow drifts. Thank you.
